Do Not Let What You Cannot Do Interfere with What You Can Do

It's pretty easy for any of us to focus on the knowledge and skills that we don't have rather than fully utilizing the knowledge and skills that we do have. Each of us is endowed with a unique, special set of gifts that we can use to fully realize our destiny.

Keep in mind that just because you do not possess a certain level of skill or knowledge in a particular area does not mean that you cannot possess that level of skill and knowledge. Far too often we have our judgment clouded by what we believe we cannot do. We must always understand that no matter what that we can achieve something if we just try. Let's not focus on our weaknesses so much that they keep us from trying. We all know that not trying is the same as not living.

So go ahead and take some action. The wonderful thing about action is that you will always be rewarded for your efforts. By that I don't mean that you'll necessarily hit the target you aim for each and every time. What I do mean is that each time you miss the target should serve as a valuable learning experience. This experience will allow you to tweak your aim and hit more targets more often in the future.
“Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.” – John Wooden

You Must Have Long-Range Goals to Keep You from Being Frustrated by Short-Range Failures

It's very easy to let short-term challenges and frustrations occupy the bulk of our thoughts. We mustn't let these things cloud our judgment and remain focused on the big picture.

If we just tried something that did not work we have to realize that we must continue to try…for that is what achievers do. We must remain vigilant and confident with the understanding that we believe strongly that our goals will be achieved.

Having long-term goals will keep us on track much is a roadmap assists us in continuing our journey even after taking several wrong turns.

We must keep in mind that this journey called life is a marathon and not a sprint.

“You must have long-range goals to keep you from being frustrated by short-range failures.” – Charles C. Noble

Live Courageously, For There Are Far Too Many Cowards Among Us

Each day you have an opportunity to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem. By living courageously we will always do the right thing regardless of the consequences. Far too many of us go through life sitting on the sidelines and not taking the opportunity to help our fellow man. By being courageous you refuse to turn a blind eye to someone in need.

Edmund Burke is credited to have said, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” A similar quote has been attributed to Plato and that is, “The penalty good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.”

Our call to action is to take even what may seem to be the smallest opportunity to do the right thing.
“Live courageously, for there are far too many cowards among us” – Tony Spann

It’s Not That I’m so Smart, It’s Just That I Stay with Problems Longer

Persistence is the key to all achievement. The easiest thing in the world to do is to give up. We've all heard people say, “I've tried everything”. In reality, if they had actually tried everything they would have arrived at a solution.

The key is to treat each obstacle that you encounter as a sign that you are one step closer to a solution. Remember, even though every journey begins with the first step there is no journey that has ever been completed by only taking one step.

“It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer.” – Albert Einstein

100% of the Shots You Don’t Take Don’t Go in

It is very easy for us to talk ourselves out of taking action. Perhaps we didn't get the results we wanted in a previous attempt. It is also quite possible that we became discouraged after a series of failed attempts to accomplish a variety of different things. Not trying because we are afraid of not succeeding is a result of our fear of failure. Fear of failure can be paralyzing for all of us.

Is it not better to try and fail than to not try at all? The best way to overcome fear failure is to accomplish something successfully. The best way to accomplish something successfully is to take the necessary actions to do so.

Never, ever be afraid to try. If you continue to try and never stop trying you will experience success beyond your wildest dreams.

100% of the shots you don't take don't go in – Wayne Gretzky

A Man Is Not Old Until Regrets Take the Place of Dreams

As time passes by we may tend to reflect on the state of our lives and the things we wish we would or could have done. The solution is to not regret the things you wish you would have done, but to do them. Choose something simple that you want to do and do it today. Don't let today become tomorrow and tomorrow become next week and next week become next year without taking action.

Never stop dreaming, never stop setting goals, never stop striving to improve your life and the lives of others.
A man is not old until regrets take the place of dreams. – John Barrymore

Don’t Judge Each Day by the Harvest You Reap, but by the Seeds You Plant

“Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.” – Robert Louis Stevenson

When I first saw this quote it made me reflect upon how easy it is to seek short-term, instant gratification rather than long-term sustainable results. The seeds we must plant are the actions we take in order to reach our goals which are our harvests.

What if we asked ourselves each morning, “what seeds will I plant today in the field of my life?”. We could also ask ourselves each evening, “what seeds did I plant today in the field of my life?”.

When we find that at the end of the day we have planted many seeds we can be pleased because we know there will be bountiful harvests in our future.
